Information on the disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment

In connection with the sale of electrical and electronic equipment, we are obliged to draw your attention to the following:

  1. All electrical appliances that can be used in private households are marked with the symbol of the crossed-out wheeled bin.

The symbol of the crossed-out wheeled bin according to Annex 3 of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) indicates that electrical and electronic equipment must be collected separately from unsorted municipal waste.
  2. Owners of old appliances must dispose of them separately from unsorted municipal waste. Old appliances must not be disposed of with household waste.
  3. Used batteries that are not enclosed in the old appliance, as well as lamps that can be removed from the old appliance without destroying them, must be separated from the old appliance without destroying them before being handed over to a collection point.
  4. Batteries containing lithium can catch fire or explode if handled incorrectly. Handle batteries containing lithium with care. Avoid mechanical damage, shocks or impacts. After removing the battery, the poles must be insulated by taping them over. Damaged, deformed, swollen or leaking lithium-containing batteries must be taken to the return point in a separate transport container.
  5. Distributors according to § 17 ElektroG, i.e. those with a sales area for electrical and electronic equipment of at least 400 square meters as well as distributors of food with a total sales area of at least 800 square meters who offer and make electrical and electronic equipment available on the market several times a calendar year or permanently, are obliged to take back old appliances free of charge as follows:
    1. When purchasing a new electrical or electronic appliance, distributors obliged to take back are required to take back an old appliance of the same type that fulfills essentially the same functions as the new appliance, free of charge at the place of delivery or in the immediate vicinity thereof. The place of delivery is also the private household, provided that delivery takes place there.
    2. At your request, distributors will also take back old appliances that are no longer than 25 centimeters in any outer dimension, free of charge. The return is not tied to the purchase of an electrical or electronic appliance and is limited to three old appliances per device type.
    3. Insofar as the contract was concluded using means of distance communication, free collection is limited to electrical and electronic equipment of categories 1 (heat exchangers), 2 (screens, monitors and equipment containing screens with a surface area of more than 100 square centimeters) and 4 (large equipment). The return of electrical and electronic equipment of categories 3 (lamps), 5 (small equipment) and 6 (small IT and telecommunications equipment) and old appliances with a dimension of up to 25 centimeters is to be guaranteed by suitable return options within a reasonable distance from you.
An overview of the equipment categories and the respective recorded equipment can be found at: https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/elektrog_2015/anlage_1.html
  6. For private households, returns can be made to the municipal collection points of your city or municipality, for example at recycling centers or mobile hazardous waste collection units. In addition, if offered by your municipality, you can request the collection of old appliances with bulky waste or dispose of small appliances in collection containers in public places.
  7. We would like to expressly point out that end-users are responsible for deleting personal data on the old appliances to be disposed of.
